Why language training boosts earnings

Find out why it's in your interest to train yourself and your employees, to boost productivity and your salary.

The Fédération de la formation professionnelle has commissioned economist Nicolas Bouzou and his consultancy Asteres to study the real impact of an increase in the language skills of French workers on the global economy and on the future of the employee himself.

This ground-breaking study shows that learning foreign languages benefits both the individual and the company. Indeed, mastery of a foreign language such as English is a powerful engine for growth.

Monceau Langues takes a look at some of the key points. What are the concrete benefits of language training for the individual and the company?

For the employee: a better salary and greater employability

Thanks to neuroscience, it has now been proven that people who master a foreign language find it easier to acquire new skills. Mastery of two languages forces bilingual speakers to constantly prevent interference from one when expressing themselves in the other, enabling them to gain in concentration and efficiency.

On an individual level, employees who have learned a foreign language are more employable. Language skills are invaluable to companies, who also reward employees with higher salaries, crescendoing with language proficiency. Numerous studies, for example, have attempted to put a figure on the extra pay that multilingual employees can expect, which could range from 10% to 30% of salary.

For example, an employee with a conversational command of a foreign language can expect to earn an average of 4,300 euros more net per year!

Don't wait any longer to take language training - you'll improve both your career prospects and your income!

For the company: stronger growth and improved productivity

The evaluation model developed in the study shows that a 1% increase in the number of multilinguals in France would be accompanied by a 0.7% rise in exports, representing 4.5 billion euros in additional goods and services exported each year.

Even more interestingly, especially for managers looking for a concrete return on investment, a company that trains at least 10% of its employees in a foreign language to B2 level can expect to see its sales increase by 1.53%.

French companies therefore have every interest in promoting foreign language training for their employees.
